Having always had a weight problem, my entire adolescent and adult life has been spent on one type of diet or another. In my late 30's I developed diabetes, high blood pressure, urinary urges and lots of hip and knee pains. I also developed sleep apnea and respiratory problems associated with my obesity. As my husband and I began to try and have a family, I was diagnosed with infertility of unknown origins. Chest pains and shortness of breath were my daily companions, along with medications and an arsenal of diabetes test strips. Constant fatigue limited my activities and I began to drop down into the dark hole of depression. Dr. Craig Wierum, my endocrinologist, suggested this surgery to me at least a year before I decided to venture forth and have the surgery.

Now that I have had the surgery, I can run and jump with the rest of the world and life is so beautiful and so much fun!!! I no longer suffer with diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, urinary urges, or shortness of breath! Although I can no longer have children, due to my age and subsequent abdominal hernia repair, my husband and I are adopting children this summer and I could never have imagined this at my previous weight and health status. I have more energy than I know what to do with and I hope to one day inspire my husband to also have this surgery. If you are hesitant about having this procedure, please call me.
