I had the DS on July 16, 2004. I weighed in at 479# at surgery day. Today, 7 months
later, I am down 142# to 337#. My life has changed so much. Within a month from
surgery I was no longer on insulin or any diabetic meds. Even my heart meds have
been reduced in number. I am still on CPAP, but I don't think I am ready nor do
I want to get rid of that yet. Before surgery I used an electric scooter. I haven't
used the thing since January 05. I walk wherever I wanna go. I
joined the YMCA on Feb. 1st and now walk the treadmill 4 to 5 days a week. I have
started on their Activate America program and will be working with a trainer and
have weekly sessions with her for 18 weeks; then biweekly weekly for 18 weeks.
They took my body fat percentage and measurements and I cant wait to see how that
changes over time. I can do so much more now then ever before. I haven't been
this small in 15 years. My goal is to get near 200#. I am hoping with plastic
surgery I can get near there. By obtaining that weight I will have lost about
80% of my excess. I can't say enough for the care
I received from Dr. Husted. I was a sick girl going into surgery. Dr. Husted didn't
bat an eye. He took my case and didn't make me lose weight before surgery like
another doc had insisted I do. Dr. Husted saved my life. I was self-pay. It really
isn't as bad as everyone expects. It was the best money I ever spent. I
just can't emphasize to everyone how much this surgery has changed my life. I
am no longer a slave to food. My choices have changed. My tastes have changed
somewhat. Everyone told me that it was possible that I would hate chocolate after
surgery. Well I don't, even though I secretly wish I did at times. Around TOM
I am still a chocolate fiend. If you have any questions,
please don't hesitate to write me. If you are a SSSMO
person like I was, please trust Dr. Husted. He has the skill and expertise to
work with us and a support staff who isn't scared of working with the fat. Live
life to the fullest.
