I'm sure if you have read the board for any amount of time
you have most likely already heard all you want to hear from....LOL
But I'll bore you a bit more, so please forgive me!
January
19th, 2001 is a day I will never stop thanking the Lord for.
I remember the exact date because it was my son's 15th birthday
and I was at my pulmonologist's office with lots of breathing
problems. It turned out to be a day that changed my life forever.
Pretty basically the good doctor told me that day in no uncertain
terms that I would ALMOST DEFINITELY die before my 50th birthday
if my weight didn't drop drastically and very soon. I was
41 at the time. I had already seen it, just was in serious
denial. I had had to leave my chosen career to take a much
lesser paying, unfulfilling job due to my health. I had NO
LIFE whatsoever; my life consisted of going to work and fighting
to stay awake (due to SEVERE sleep apnea) and coming home
to crash on the couch because that's all the energy I had.
It was
the wake up call I needed. After discussing the options, I
found that WLS was my only viable option and that didn't sound
so good. He recommended Dr. Husted and so a few weeks later
I attended a seminar with much skepticism and not much hope.
I thought for sure there was a reason that this wouldn't work
for me as every other cure for this disease (and YES this
addiction to food is just as much a disease as cancer) had
one. I came away with a peace in my heart that this was the
right thing, courtesy of Wiz's (and yes I am the one who branded
him with that!) matter of fact manner and all the info he
put forth and Jamie's easy spirit that made me instantly comfortable.
More importantly it was the first time in a long time (maybe
forever) that I had not felt judged for my plight only a willingness
to help if I had the courage to take the first step and trust
the Lord and John Husted to bring me home from the terrible
place I was in.
May 7th
of 2001 I underwent the surgery and have never looked back.
I have been a text book case all the way! Just look in the
textbook under COMPLICTIONS!....LOL All the way from four
days on the ventilator post-op (what a giggle....NOT!) to
a raging post-op infection that ended in hospitalization with
cellulitis, and two more for dehydration when my pouch became
irritated and I couldn't even keep water down along with an
esophageal tear from all the vomiting. Scared you yet? Well,
I am the poster child for Murphy's Law and WAY out of the
norm.....but then I always have been!
Today
19 months post-op I am down roughly 230 lbs and feel great!
I do pretty much whatever I want physically and am having
a ball! I have a new job, have moved to California and life
is pretty grand! If I awoke tomorrow and found I was back
to square one and had the choice to go through the whole thing
again, I'd say "You bet your Bippy! Can we start today?"
I wouldn't recommend that anyone take WLS lightly and know
that Wiz and company wouldn't allow it anyhow, but I do encourage
you to seek this cure if it is what you and Dr. Husted truly
believe is your best shot at a normal life.
I am proud
to call each and every member of the Wiz and Company team
a friend and owe them all a huge debt of gratitude which I
can never repay. Wiz, Jamie and Company not only gave me back
my life and my health....they gave me back my hope for which
I had NONE before I met them.....Thanks a million! You guys
are truly my heroes!
