On June 12th I had my DS surgery and had no problems. At 5
ft tall, I was at an all time record high of 210 lbs. I felt
horrible and I looked worse.
Dr. Husted performed the surgery on me and
I had no problems. However little did I know that only a few
days later when I had returned to my home I would begin my
real journey!!!!!
I developed a leak in my intestine and found
myself unable to "void" I was in excruciating pain
and truly thought I was going to die.
I contacted Dr. Husted's office and told Jamie
(his nurse) that I had not been able to urinate nor have a
bowel movement in 2 days, I was constantly thirsty and drinking
my water as much as I could yet it was going "nowhere"!!!
She consulted with Dr. Husted and told me
to get to my local hospital ASAP. I was unable to go by car
and had to be ambulanced to the ER where I was tested and
found to have a leak. It was terrifying for me but more so
for my husband and family.
I was then ambulanced to Nashville where I
was reopened and repaired.
I remained in the hospital for almost 2 1/2
months with every complication that could be had.
Dr Husted and Dr. Anderson where both very
attentive and gave me every courtesy I could ask. Today I
am 6 months past surgery and feel wonderful I have lost 80
lbs and have a whole new life ahead of me.
"I" would never recommend surgery
to someone for weight loss, however I would recommend that
anyone considering it examine all of the pros and cons pray
about it, as I did pray for guidance in finding the very best
surgeon they can. I would say that Drs. Husted and Anderson
are outstanding in their field and they are men of God.
I thank God every day for their presence in
my life as well as the support of my husband who stayed with
me at the hospital during my ordeal and my family for their
love, support, and prayers.
A special thanks to my little sister and her
husband who brought me home and helped me regain my sanity
after my 2 1/2 months in the hospital.
Let me also say that Dr. Husted's staff are
all first rate and the staff at Baptist Hospital are wonderful...my
story has so much more to it, but this is the super short
version!!!!
God bless all who may take this journey and
the hands that help them along the way.
UPDATE April 2005 - I am doing wonderful.
I now weigh a whopping 104.5 lbs. I eat very well and have
had no problems to speak of. I feel great and am enjoying
life as never before because I am not constantly thinking
about my weight, what I can or cannot eat and how much I wish
I could lose weight. It is just a wonderful
feeling!
