I turned 50 in September of 2002. I may not have made it if it weren't for this life-saving surgery. Like the rest of you, I've had a lifelong battle with obesity ... tried almost everything and nothing worked. My primary care physician had been trying for a couple of years to get me to consider weight loss surgery, but I kept saying it was a last resort. In early 2001, I was at my "last resort" point. I could barely get from my car to my office because of severe osteoarthritis in my knees, and I was facing losing a job I loved because of my weight. This was such a major blow because I also had very low self esteem since childhood and my only feeling of self worth came from my work ... and now I couldn't even do that.

I heard about Dr. Husted from my boss's mother-in-law, and attended his seminar with my husband. I came out that night convinced that I had found the answer. I was blessed to have everything fall into place easily. I had a consultation with Dr. Husted, saw a pulmonologist, got insurance approval and was scheduled for surgery within a month. I never had a second thought and was absolutely at peace with my decision on the day of surgery. I had an uneventful post-surgery hospital stay with very little pain. I'll be honest and tell you that I DID have second thoughts a number of times in the months following surgery ... but we all know about the adjustment our bodies have to make and it did pass. I may not have been able to say so the first few months, but now I know I'd do it again in a heartbeat. I thank God for giving me my life back.
