When I reached 329 pounds, I realized that I could not live
another year unless I did something drastic. My husband, Bill,
was 100% in favor of whatever I decided I had to do. Because
I am a Kindergarten teacher, Dr. Husted recommended the Fobi.
Bill and I made out new wills and tried to get our affairs
in order because we knew the risks. Our three beautiful grown
daughters were with me all the way, but my two (at the time,
but now three girls and one boy) granddaughters were not too
sure at all.
I was pushing 58 at the time and had every
possible illness that goes with morbid obesity including diabetes,
high blood pressure, sleep apnea, etc. I had the Fobi in September
2002 and did great. Everything went just like it was supposed
to and I went back to school four weeks later.
On June 1, 2003 Bill and I celebrated our
35th anniversary and June 3rd Bill was diagnosed with terminal
cancer. Bill died five weeks later. Needless to say without
the surgery my children would have no living parent and I
thank God and Dr. Husted every day for all that I have.
I now weigh 160 and most people do not recognize
me, which is really a lot of fun. I do still have arthritis
very badly but when Dr. Husted finds a surgery for that I
will be first in line. When I receive phone calls asking if
I would have the surgery again if I had it to do over again,
I tell them IN A HEARTBEAT. My only regret is that I did not
have it done years ago.
