All my life, I remember being made fun of for my weight. I was always the "fat" granddaughter. I had very low self esteem and avoided crowds and even gave up a lot of my friends.

I had gotten to the point where my diabetes and weight had taken over my life. All I did was work and go home to hit the couch. My son was 8 at the time, and he was always forced to play alone. I just didn't have the strength or will to spend the time with him that he needed.

My surgery was in 2003 and I weighed 236 pounds. I am only 5 feet tall. I now weigh 124 pounds and feel great! Five days after surgery, my diabetes was gone. For the first time in his life, my son Morgan has a Mom that can actually live life with him. He loves having this "New Mama". I enjoy every day with him, trying to make up for time lost I guess.

Dr. Husted saved my life. I have no doubt I would have totally given up on life, and finally let the weight take over. This was one of the biggest decisions I ever made, and I thank God every day that he helped make it possible. Now my home is "the place to be" for my son and all his friends. If you are thinking about having one of the surgeries...think hard. It's a life changing experience, but wonderful in the end. People often ask me if I was afraid to have it, and my response is....I was more afraid NOT to have it. I have my life back now...nothing could be better. I have tons of friends, a wonderful husband that stuck by me through it all, and a son that is truly proud of me. What more could I ever ask for?
